We cannot recommend NCC Builders and John Pochynok highly enough.  Last year, we purchased a home that was partially built and had structural problems.  We searched for a builder who could handle the never ending list of hidden problems that would crop up during the repair and completion of our home.  We were so lucky to find John.  His attention to detail, exceptional problem solving skills, ability to think outside the box and unruffled demeanor made our experience painless and he did it all while staying within a predetermined budget.

He is highly respected by his peers, architects, engineers, planners and his subcontractors.  He provides a level of excellence in his work and demands and receives it from those who work for him.  When we moved in in December, there were only 5 or 6 items that we could find to put on a punch list.  Our investment has appreciated from the high level of workmanship that NCC Builders put into our home.

In 2004, we came to Park City to look at vacation properties and spent several days reviewing the work product of several local builders, to gain an understanding as to whether to buy an existing home or construct a new home.   One property that caught our attention was a uniquely crafted log home just outside of the city, perched on a hill overlooking Canyons and Park City Mountain Resort.  The home wasn’t for sale but my wife and I were enamored with the quality of the construction, the materials selection and richness of the Nordic design.

After viewing that home, we decided to purchase a mountain-facing lot with views of Deer Valley for purposes of building our own Nordic-style log home – a home that our then young children and friends would enjoy, designed in way that would incorporate the open and rugged surroundings of the Wasatch Range. We also contacted NCC Builders, the firm responsible for the design and construction of the log home that initially caught our eyes during our house-hunting endeavor.

We live on the east coast and John and team are based in the Park City area, which presented a series of communication and logistics challenges – but after a couple of in-person meetings, a series of hand-drawn renderings, dozens of telephone and e mail exchanges, we settled on the basic design, scope and pricing of the house.   Once we completed the planning and permitting processes, which included gaining approval for full-blown well and fire suppression system due to the remoteness of the location, my wife, John and I spoke several times per week to review the progress being made on the construction of the home.

At every minor and major decision point, we reviewed comparable feature photographs and renderings to aid in our overall decision-making processes.   Throughout the 12-month construction phase, which traversed one of the heaviest winters on record, we were presented with detailed information about the progress made to date on the house – more importantly, before each call or meeting, John would forward dozens of photographs of the project, including intricate plumbing, electrical infrastructure, base structural and interior design features.   The communication mechanism was designed to avoid the trauma of major change orders and bad construction decision-making.

Once John turned over the home to our family, he diligently followed up on punch list and other items normally associated with living in a newly constructed home.  More importantly, now, nearly 8 years after we met john and completed the construction of our log home, we’ve experienced only minor issues with our home, all of which have been remedied by John and his team.   The level of attachment that our family has to our home, its design, and the way it all came together is largely attributable to the hands-on and patient nature of John and his organization.

We love our log home. The craftsmanship and attention to detail make the finishing touches the quality we expected. The square logs give elegance to an otherwise rustic creation. The interior is a warm and inviting atmosphere with slate tile, stainless appliances, beautiful stone fireplaces and large windows showing breathtaking views.

Working with NCC Builders and his team has truly been a pleasure. They guided through every step of the process. John and his team are true professionals in every way. The team’s attention to detail and passion to create our new home was evident from the day we broke ground to the day we moved in.  They also provided continued support afterwards. We value the friendship we’ve built with John and highly recommend NCC Builders.
